Jennifer Shipley - DoodlepunkArt

Welcome to DoodlepunkArt

Hello! I’m Jen, the artist and founder of DoodlepunkArt, where I merge my deep love for creating with my personal journey of healing. My artful pieces range from handmade gemstone jewelry—meticulously crafted to harness the natural healing properties of stones and enhance the beauty of the wearer—to print-on-demand items like phone cases, handbags, and home decor featuring my original artwork.

Art has been my most cherished form of expression since childhood. My mom fondly recalls me making intricate patterns in paper with sewing pins at 18 months old. By six, I was illustrating my own books. I followed this passion, studying fine art and illustration, working for years as a graphic artist, and eventually earning my BFA in Printmaking from California State University, Long Beach in 2005, despite lifelong health challenges that intensified during my solo exhibition. Teaching drawing and painting for the following two years at Suha Art Institute brought me immense joy, but my worsening health led me back to my roots in the Pacific Northwest, where I settled into my current studio in beautiful Union, Washington, overlooking Hood Canal.

What began as crafting unique pendants from driveway stones, simply to learn metalwork for creating “sick art dolls,” evolved into DoodlepunkArt—an artistic journey focused not on sickness, but on healing and empowerment. I believe that in the face of life’s challenges, engaging in creative practices brings a sense of purpose, joy, and renewal. Every piece I design, whether jewelry or print-on-demand art, is infused with my passion, experiences, and meticulous attention to detail. My hope is that each creation inspires others and highlights their unique charm.

Since 2009, I’ve been running my Etsy shop, DoodlepunkArt, where I sell one-of-a-kind gemstone jewelry, raw and cut crystal specimens, and various art objects. My work blends fine arts, crafts, holistic tools, and spiritual practices. I do everything from lapidary work and wire weaving to metalwork and soldering, creating each piece with love, intention, and precision.

Art has become more than a passion for me—it’s a lifeline. Struggling with chronic health challenges, I lean on my creativity as a way to heal, find peace, and generate the energy to tackle life’s difficulties. The act of creating, paired with the energy of stones and crystals, helps me navigate the toughest moments with stubborn positivity—and hopefully a touch of grace. For over 30 years, I’ve explored the healing properties of rocks and crystals to support my health and creativity, and now I aim to share this gift with you. Each pendant and object is designed to inspire and empower, offering a touch of nature’s beauty and energy in a wearable form.

DoodlepunkArt is named after a cherished memory from my childhood—the book Look Out, Mrs. Doodlepunk! which sparked my imagination and resilience. The name also honors my late cats, Punky and Doodle, who were constant sources of joy. Today, my loyal studio assistant, Boo Boo, keeps me smiling, ensuring that each piece is made with love and good intentions.

When I’m not crafting, you might find me playing music, singing, doodling, hiking, rockhounding, kayaking, foraging, or spending time with my wonderful friends and family. I strive to live with gratitude, patience, and positivity, and I hope my art reflects these values. May my creations bring you the same sense of comfort and inspiration that they bring to me.
